Methodisem in the year 1819
Contrasted with the year 1835
In the year of our Lord 1811, or 1812 in
consequence of envy & Malice against the Westlyan Methodists, by the
Episcopal Priests & Bishops of the Curch of England, Induced and Impelled
the English goverment to Strike a Death Blow at Methodism, by the enactment of
a Law in the British Parliament to put a stop to the Itinerancy of all
traveling Preachers, because of the Prosaliting Success of the Exciting
traveling Preaching Scheme resorted to by the Methodists. Lord Sidmouth Introduced an act, which
passed in the English House of Commons forbiding and Prohibiting under
effective Pains &z Pennalties--Itinerancy of any Denomination of Preachers. the Methodist Conference oreded a Preching
Crusade against the English goverment. & such was the agitated excitement
against Sidmouths Bill the Parliament
Repealed the obnoxioous act against the Methodists. in gratitude to the English goverment for the Repeal of this
odious act, the Methodist Conference loaned the government half a Million of Pounds sterling, to Prosecuter the war
against the French People to Force upon them a king & Family of Kings, they
despised & hated. The meek and
lowly Methodist Preachers originally at their commencement took in all
dayfairing Men & Brothers, then they did not turn away or Scout their
Members on account of their Political or Social Proclivities & Principles.
in the year 1834, Conference Passed a Rule & Law
forbiding any Member belonging to the Methodist conerion to Join any Secret
Society, no matter wether or not such Society is established for Beneficial
& Philanthropic Purpose. Such
Dictation is an outrage on the Methodist Members & the Rights of Man. A talented & Intilecual young Man the
name of William, a local Preacher in the old Methodist conexion had joined the
ancient order of odd Fellows. he were notified by the superintendent Preacher
to quit the odd Fellows, or to quit Preaching.
The Patriotic youn Man took the Superintendent at his word. He left the old conexion. & he Joined
the new Methodist conexion in the year 1835.
